Chapter One of Great Expectations Essay - 832 Words
What is the Significance of Chapter One of Great Expectations in Relation to the Novel as a Whole? Great Expectations is a novel written by Charles Dickens and is considered to be one of his best stories. The plot follows a young boy named Phillip Pirrip or Pip and it focuses on his growth as he matures from a young boy into a fully grown man. He had always had great expectations of himself, wishing to become someone of high social class - as this was set and written in the Victorian era when social class was a huge factor of society - and when he ends up visiting an eccentric woman called Miss Haversham he meets a beautiful young girl called Estella who becomes more important later on. The setting from the start of the book is very important starting with the bleak and stereotypical graveyard that gives the chapter tension and a gloomy mood. The graveyard is a typical example of how the setting contributes to the atmosphere of the story. Starting the book in a graveyard immediately informs the reader about a lot of information about Pips history and under different circumstances it would have taken a lot longer to explain; things like Pips parents and family, which were quickly and subtlety explained to the readers using the gravestones when Magwitch asked Wheres your mother? and Pips response being There sir as he points to his Mother, Father and five siblings gravestones. Throughout the book the setting reflects Pips mood e.g. Pips experiences of suffering and torture, both mental and physical, by his sister were reflected by the surroundings being rough. The language and dialogue is unusual for a novel, this may be because originally it would have been written for a newspaper or magazine and it may have been published monthly because of this you will notice that all of the characters have either comical or unusual names, Dickens used this technique to make sure that these characters are not forgotten also you can also see subtle reminders ofShow MoreRelatedChapter One of Great Expectations Essay767 Words à |à 4 PagesCOURSEWORK ââ¬ËHow effective is chapter one as an opening to ââ¬Å"great expectationsâ⬠?ââ¬â¢ The first chapter is set in the grave yard, where pip is looking at the tombstones of his dead parents and brothers. ââ¬ËArranged in a neat row beside their grave, and were sacred to the memory of five little brothers of mine- who gave up trying to get a living exceedingly early in that universal struggleââ¬â¢. Hollingsworth and Tyyska discuss the employment of women in their article, both wage work and work performed outside of the ââ¬Å"paid labour force.â⬠(14). They also look at work discrimination of women based on gender and marital status. They argue that disapproval of married women working for wages during the Depression was expressed not only by those in position of power, such as politicians, but also by the general public and labour unions. They suggest that the number of women in the workforce increased as more young wives stayed working until the birth of their first child and older women entered the workforce in response to depression based deprivation. Hollingsworth and Tyyska also give examples of work that married women did thatâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦She argues that supporters of working women also appealed to equality and critiqued the restrictive definitions of masculinity and femininity, including the gender division of labour in the family. She states that women and men working alongside each other in offices caused concern that mixing would lead to immorality or that so many women working suggested an end to male breadwinning. However Srigley states that men and women usually worked different jobs and agrees with Hobbs that despite tough times men were usually unwilling to take on jobs that were seen as stereotypically female, such as office work. Baillargeon also suggests that both men and women in Montreal were reluctant to engage in role reversal that was at odds with societyââ¬â¢s socially accepted division of labour. Out of the women she interviewed only two became the main breadwinner, both had no more than two children, and someone other than theirs husbands took care of the children, despite that these men were unemployed. There are a range of activities that were taking place with the most of the 1,300 city employees having participated in the available more than 115 task forces, committees, advisory groups, self-directed teams all who worked under different jobs that were not their usual jobs. We will write a custom essay sample on A Lesson in Reinvention or any similar topic only for you Order Now For instance, the cityââ¬â¢s assistant manager, Mary Bunting was preoccupied with the task of digging ditches with a cityââ¬â¢s sewer crew, development of a new city park that was required by another agency was performed by a certain heavy construction team that worked under the public works department, the chief housing inspector Mr. Donald Gurley on the other hand was busy organizing for an exhibition that concerned the provision of city services for a college in the neighborhood which was also a training program that could be made available to the cityââ¬â¢s residents, Kevin Gallagher who was in charge of the cityââ¬â¢s recycling programs assisted the street crews in clearing ice and snow (Lane, 1999 p. 412-418). All these activities that were taking place mainly because of the change that Hamptonââ¬â¢s city manager Bob Oââ¬â¢Neil had initiated.à He wanted his assistants to integrate well with various agencies and this could only be achieved by making them to work in conjunction with various agencies so as to be able to know and understand how these organizations operated. As a result, this strategy led to various impacts on the employees of Hampton organization.à The assumptions and beliefs that the employees had about each other changed as the case of Mary Buntingââ¬â¢s assumption on sewer employees.à She found out that these employees were actually more flexible and skilled on their new responsibilities.à Motivation was also apparent on the employees under the heavy construction team.à Teamwork is evident and created a positive impact on employees and employers. For instance, Kevin Gallagher enjoyed the teamwork that was created as it connected him to other employees as well as understanding their roles and responsibilities.à This is informal connecting and creation of networking among the employees as a result of the collaboration that was among the employees of Hampton as they tried to achieve the organizational objectives (Lane, 1999 p. 412-418). This change as offered by city manager Bob Oââ¬â¢Neil was essential for Hampton because of the existence of a non-competitive economic as well as fical development structure and the ââ¬Å"inside the box ââ¬Å"standardized issue of bureaucracy that was intense in the organization was causing a major stagnation to Hampton. In the past, the employees at Hampton did not portray much flexibility and bureaucracy was felt in the city government whose boss was the manager.à The departmental heads were directed on what to do by the assistant city managers and on the other hand these heads of departments guarded their hoarding decisions, their turf and information by commanding supervisors and middle managers who were responsible for controlling the everyday work of employees. Another issue concerning bureaucracy is that employees as well as managers were preoccupied with operational procedures that were mainly detailed and the chain of command was evident in communication processes in Hampton.à In other words the past Hampton organization greatly prized the aspects of stability, control, loyalty and certainty (Lane, 1999 p. 412-418). As a result, Hampton was slowly dying as noted by James Eason.à The impacts then were high population growth rate, high taxes, reduced per-capital income and home values were among the lowest in the region, a strain on the budget that was caused by debt-repayments and lastly there was business loss in the city to the neighboring communities. This therefore proved that Hampton was non-competitive hence the city council opted to find a suitable city government that could be quick to respond to the needs of the community, an innovative city government as well as action ââ¬â oriented and flexible. The city council identified Bob Oââ¬â¢Neill who had once worked as an intern in the city hence he clearly understood the bureaucracy right from the inside. à Bob Oââ¬â¢Neil was given a performance contract that was written by the city council that contained clearly specific and spelled out for city government (Lane, 1999 p. 412-418). Upon his arrival to the Hampton organization, Oââ¬â¢Neill instructed his assistant managers to work on long-term strategic policies rather than micromanaging their departments.à Moreover, he asked directors to fully control their agencies. He also worked with the city council through the method of ââ¬Å"coreâ⬠strategy in order to achieve the set goals.à He also put the heads of department under performance contracts which contained spelled out results that they were expected to attain and also included bonuses for any achievements made by these departmental heads (Lane, 1999 p. 412-418). Reflection on mental health nursing Essay Essay Example
Reflection on mental health nursing Essay Essay This is a brooding essay based on my attending at a multidisciplinary squad ( MDT ) meeting whilst on my two-week arrangement at a local mental wellness twenty-four hours infirmary. The purpose of this essay is to discourse the importance of the multidisciplinary squad within the mental wellness environment and discuss factors that can act upon the success or failure of multidisciplinary squads. Mental wellness squads by and large comprise of head-shrinkers. clinical psychologists. nurses. occupational healers and societal workers. but other healers such as household healers. clinical psychologists and counselors might besides go involved in the attention of the patient ( Perkins A ; Repper 1998 ) . Multidiscipline engagement is of import within mental wellness nursing as people with mental wellness jobs have multiple demands. so a assortment of expertness is required to run into the demands of these people ( Darby et al 1999 ) . We will write a custom essay sample on Reflection on mental health nursing Essay specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Reflection on mental health nursing Essay specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Reflection on mental health nursing Essay specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer Multidisciplinary mental wellness squads can been defined as: ââ¬Å"A group of practicians with different professional preparation. employed by more than one bureau. who meet on a regular basis to organize their work supplying services to one or more clients in a defined areaâ⬠( Ovretveit. 1993: 9 cited in Onyett 2003 ) The advantage of a multidisciplinary squad attack is that all professionals work together by roll uping the facts and by conveying information together. to obtain as complete a position as possible of the jobs of each single patient. In making this they are able to do certain that the proper scope of interventions are used in a decently planned manner ( Onyett 2003 ) . One of the disadvantages of a multidisciplinary squad is that jobs can be encountered when different professionals work together. there can be ill-defined ends. deficiency of way and hapless leading ( Darby et al 1999 ) . In order to construction this contemplation I have chosen Gibbs ( 1988 ) as the theoretical account to assist with my brooding procedure. This theoretical account comprises of a procedure that helps the single expression at a state of affairs and believe about their ideas and feelings at the clip of the incident. Reflective accomplishments help us to believe about what could hold been done. so that if a similar state of affairs occurs once more the experience gained can be used to cover with the state of affairs in a professional mode ( Burns et al 1997 ) . To enable me to utilize this state of affairs for my contemplation the patient will be referred to as ââ¬Å"Kateâ⬠. This is in order that her existent name is protected and that confidentially maintained in line with the NMC ( 2002 ) Code of Professional Conduct. Description Kate is a 66-year-old lady. retired from her occupation as a nurse 10 old ages ago. She has lived entirely since the decease of her hubby 7 old ages ago. and has one really supportive boy who lives locally and visits 2-3 times a hebdomad. Kate was referred to the infirmary by her physician after showing with an 18-month history of memory jobs and it was decided that she should go to the twenty-four hours infirmary for a period of six hebdomads to be assessed and to be involved in curative activities whilst at that place. Whilst go toing the twenty-four hours infirmary she was observed. and found to be insistent with obvious grounds of fiction. really disorientated. with hapless concentration and really hapless short-run memory. The adviser asked the mental wellness nurses to measure Kate and trials indicated that she may be enduring from a moderate grade of dementedness. Dementia is a mental upset caused by structural alterations in the encephalon and affects about 10 per cent of people aged over 65 ( Newell A ; Gournay 2000 ) . An MDT meeting was so arranged to discourse the bundle of attention needed for this lady. to enable her to go on populating safely in her ain place. The Consultant chaired the meeting by conveying the squad to the attending of Kateââ¬â¢s medical history and the jobs herself and boy had been sing. He felt she would profit from medicine to assist her memory jobs. The community psychiatric nurse ( CPN ) so discussed to the squad the concerns of Kates boy. he had informed her that Kate is rolling at inappropriate times of twenty-four hours and seldom retrieving to eat. she is besides on a regular basis burying to turn off the lights-outs and gas contraptions in the house. He is really concerned for the safety of his female parent. The occupational healer suggested she visit to measure Kateââ¬â¢s safety in her place refering these issues. The societal worker discussed the possibility of place carers but the mental wellness nurse who knows Kate good. Tells of her concerns that Kate is neer at place. The societal worker suggested a instance meeting affecting the boy who could perchance guarantee that his female parent takes her medicine on a regular basis and to seek and guarantee that she remains at place until the carers arrive. It was agreed that if this did non work or was unsuitable for Kate or her boy. any jobs identified could be discussed and resolved at a future MDT meeting. Feelingss I felt really comfy and really accepted within the MDT meeting. The ambiance was friendly and relaxed and everybody at that place seemed to hold something to lend. Everyone was encouraged to take part and I felt that I could hold contributed to the treatment if I had known the patient better. I feel they would hold listened to my thoughts and non dismissed them due to me being a pupil. Everybody communicated good with each other and had the best involvements of Kate in head and so treatments were made until the best result was achieved for her. This demonstrates the benefit and importance of communicating within a squad and how all parts within meetings should be valued ( Perkins A ; Repper 1998 ) . Evaluation There are many positive facets of this peculiar MDT they all worked good together as a squad with the same end in head. The squad discussed all the different options available and all the jobs that might originate and looked to the hereafter to discourse farther meetings to measure if the bundle of attention put into topographic point was suited. I found it really interesting to see a MDT in action and witness the teamwork between different subjects. With the aid and support provided by her boy and the MDT Kate will hopefully be able to stay life in her ain place. safely for every bit long as possible. The dissatisfactory facet of this instance is that if Kate is neer at place when the CPN. and carers arrive this can hold a negative impact on the bundle of attention put in topographic point. and residential attention may necessitate to be considered at a ulterior day of the month. Analysis This peculiar mental wellness squad worked highly good together. the adviser chaired the meeting and was the leader of the meeting. Onyett ( 2003 ) suggests that the presence of a clear squad leader is associated with squad effectivity. The NMC ( 2002 ) provinces than nurses should work in a collaborative mode with healthcare professionals and others involved in supplying the attention for the patient. and recognise and esteem their peculiar parts within the attention squad. The instance of Kate is grounds of a multidisciplinary squad and wellness professionals working together and interrupting down barriers to supply the right bundle of attention for this person. Kateââ¬â¢s unwellness non merely affects her but besides members of her household who are seeking their best to back up her. Darby et Al ( 1999 ) states that theses troubles can hold a profound impact non merely on the life of the person who experiences them. but besides on the lives of those around them. The MDT were to the full cognizant of this and so arranged a instance meeting with the boy so that all the different options could be discussed. Kate wanders off entirely unaware of the clip of twenty-four hours or dark. Whilst person with dementedness rolling off and acquiring lost on a cold dark is clearly in danger. small can be done to do a individual stay indoors against their wants. Perkins A ; Repper ( 1998 ) discusses the hard balance between the wants. demands and rights of the single to populate as they wish and professional codifications of behavior which impose upon the wellness professionals a ââ¬Å"duty of careâ⬠to guarantee the safety of the person. Decision It can be seen from this MDT meeting that clear leading and good communicating between members of the squad is critical to guarantee they come together with a clear apprehension of the results to be achieved and every bit equipped with all the information available to get the better of patientsââ¬â¢ single jobs. Team working signifiers the footing of mental wellness nursing and can act upon the success or failure of the attention and intervention the patient receives. This effectual squad has the possible to accomplish positive results for both Kate and her boy now and in the hereafter if needed. Action program If I find myself in this type of state of affairs once more. I would be more confident in take parting in the MDT meeting. I have learnt from this state of affairs that good teamwork and communicating between each other is critical to the result of the bundle of attention decided. This contemplation has highlighted the demand to increase my cognition and apprehension of the multidisciplinary squad and the importance of the results of these meetings and how they can impact the patients and familyââ¬â¢s quality of life. which will assist me to believe really carefully about the determinations I make refering patients attention in the hereafter. I will turn to this larning demand by working closely with my wise man and other multidisciplinary squad members and by reading relevant literature. As a pupil I am cognizant that there is a batch more to larn and with more clip and experience and with the aid of my wise mans I will be able to increase my cognition and apprehension of how dif ferent subjects work together. Differences between American and British sitcoms Essay Example
Differences between American and British sitcoms Essay Example Differences between American and British sitcoms Essay Differences between American and British sitcoms Essay A sitcom is a short comedy situated in 1 or 2 recognizable areas. The word sitcom originates from situation comedy. They are typically found on TV with a recurring format. The major conventions associated with sitcoms are: Frequent characters of an identifiable style or stereotype. The use of one or two settings that we the audience can be acquainted with, plus Episodes that are quite short lasting around 30 minutes with a main comic situation and a few sub plots. British sitcoms are typically shown on one of the five main terrestrial television channels. On the contrary a few are shown on BBC 3 and BBC 4, the main reason for this is to test out new sitcoms in order to get feedback from the audience on whether they like them or not. Individual sitcoms are only screened on one channel. The regular characters generate the comedy in unusual conditions or embarrassing coincidences, corresponding their specific character with relationships or circumstances. This usually leads to the characters getting themselves into an imperfect situation normally resolved by the end of the episode. Each character is often stereotyped with unusual goals or catch phrases that continue throughout the sitcom. Differences between American and British sitcoms From analysing American and British sitcoms I have noticed many differences between the pair. American sitcoms are usually set in high class, luxurious looking houses or apartments. They are crammed with attractive looking people and sets. Friends is a typical American sitcom, because the characters are glamorous, pleasant people who are eye-catching and quite exaggerated. The setting is unrealistic, as it is much too high priced for their level of socio economic status. By contrast British sitcoms focus on more realistic plots yet deal with issues which have more impact on the audience. Only fools and horses is a traditional British sitcom, because it uses typical working class characters that are sometimes not over dramatised, they are just normal people. The comedy is acted in an ideal setting which is a high rise council flat in Peckham. The setting is lifelike as the Trotters house reflects their social and financial position. Modern British sitcoms like the Office and Phoenix nights are more radical, they deal with controversial issues and taboo subjects that are not touched on in real life amongst comedy. For example redundancy, death or under aged pregnancy; they are sensitive and shouldnt really be joked about. Nonetheless sitcoms use them to get the highest value of comedy, in attempt to intrigue and sometimes astonish the audience. A brand new sitcom also uses this method to generate humour named little Britain. It was first experimented with on BBC 3 and can now be found on BBC 2, sketches would easily be seen as offensive in real life as they include subjects, such as racism and discrimination towards peoples weight. Practical Task Creating your own British sitcom. Synopsis for Whistle while you work. Whistle while you work is based around four main characters, three males named Daz, Bob and Dave and one female called Barbarella. The main setting is a local public house; however small selections of the screenings are set on a football field. Daz the young, outgoing sports enthusiast, Bob the eccentric nerd and Dave the noble entrepreneur all have one task and that is to impress the stunning barmaid Barbarella. Barbarella is vivacious, and is very supportive towards all three gentlemen; nevertheless a relationship with any of the men is not on her agenda. The comedy is generated from the fiasco caused by the three men, when attempting to impress Barbarella. Bobs irrelevant comments, and unsystematic outbursts contribute to the comedy. Also the over competitive dispute between the three men convey pleasure to the audience. Evaluation In my practical task I set out to achieve an incomparable idea for a potentially admired sitcom. It is about an attractive barmaid and 3 men that are central around a pub. They set out to impress the barmaid. It will appeal to people in the 20-30 age bracket and even some teenagers. My sitcom matches the rules and conventions of British sitcoms for the reason that it has four stereotypical, persistent characters that are situated in two acknowledgeable settings. Daz, Bob, Dave and Barbarella are normally shown in the pub or at a football match. In addition the episodes last for 30 minutes, along with the main comic situation being the three males determination to impress Barbarella. It is shown on one of the 5 terrestrial channels which is BBC 2. All of the characters are established and have a catchphrase. Their clothes and status match their job and limits. Therefore none of the characters are over exaggerated, or spend more than they earn. My sitcom appeals to the target audience, first of all it is set in a pub and most people in the 20-30 age range go out to enjoy them selves and spend time in pubs. It is also set on a football field and as a huge amount of the population adore football the sitcom will automatically become appealing. The characters will be engaging to my target audience since they are young attractive people that are outgoing and have a lot to express. They are funny and may be idolised by the public. At the same time you can associate them with normal everyday people. My sitcom will be shown on Channel 2 on Sunday evenings. It will start at around 9 0clock and last 30 minutes. I have chosen to show my sitcom at this time because there arent any sitcoms shown on Sundays at 9 oclock, therefore fans of sitcoms will watch it. Consequently it will be viewed extensively, because there are no similar programs shown to compete with it. These are the actors I have in mind to play the main characters roles in my sitcom. I think Zoe Lucker should play the barmaid Barbarella due to the fact that she is pretty, she has blond hair and her cunning acting skills will make Barbarella irresistible to the male charm. The public will recognise her from footballers wives. I think Jason from Coronation street should play Daz the trendy sports fanatic, because he looks like he is quite a fit person and he will be able act Dazs roll of slick talking and smooth moving. I have Matt Lucas in mind to play Bob the nerd, as his ability to take on lots of different roles in Little Britain shows you that he would do a great job of adapting this character and keep the audience amused throughout. I would like Will Smith to play Dave as his witty acting talent and look of ultimate importance will perceive Daves as being the intellectual entrepreneur he really is.

History of the Wailing or Western Wall
History of the Wailing or Western Wall The Wailing Wall, also referred to as the Kotel, the Western Wall or Solomons Wall, and whose lower sections date to about the second century B.C.E., is located in the Old Quarter of East Jerusalem in Israel. Built of thick, corroded limestone, it is about 60 feet (20 meters) high and close to 160 feet (50 meters) long, though most of it is engulfed in other structures.à A Sacred Jewish Site The wall is believed by devout Jews to be the Western Wall of the Second Temple of Jerusalem (destroyed by the Romans in 70 C.E.), the only surviving structure of the Herodian Temple. The temples original location is in dispute, leading some Arabs to dispute the claim that the wall belongs to the temple, arguing instead that it is part of the structure of Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount. The structures description as the Wailing Wall derives from its Arabic identification as el-Mabka, or place of weeping, frequently repeated by European - and particularly French - travelers to the Holy Land in the 19th century as le mur des lamentations.à Jewish devotions believe that the divine presence never departs from the Western Wall. The Wailing Wall is one of the great Arab-Israeli struggles. Jews and Arabs dispute who is in control of the wall and who has access to it, and many Muslims maintain that the Wailing Wall has no relation to ancient Judaism at all. Sectarian and ideological claims aside, the Wailing Wall remains a sacred place for Jews and others who often pray - or perhapsà wail - and sometimes slip prayers written on paper through the walls welcoming fissures. In July 2009, Alon Nil launched a free service allowing people around the world to Twitter their prayers, which are then taken in printed form to the Wailing Wall. Israels Annexation of the Wall After the war of 1948 and the Arab capture of the Jewish Quarter in Jerusalem, Jews were generally banned from praying at the Wailing Wall, which was at times defaced by political posters. Israel annexed Arab East Jerusalem immediately after the 1967 Six Day War and claimed ownership of the citys religious sites. Incensed - and fearing that the tunnel the Israelis began digging, starting from the Wailing Wall and under the Temple Mount, shortly after the war was over was designed to undermine the foundations of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islams third holiest site after the mosques in Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia - Palestinians and other Muslims rioted, triggering a clash with Israeli forces that left five Arabs dead and hundreds wounded. In January 2016, the Israeli governmentà approved the first space where non-Orthodox Jews of both sexes can pray side by side, and the first Reform prayer service of both men and women took place in February 2016 in a section of the wall known as Robinsons Arch.

Initially, during ââ¬Ë60s, it was formulated to increase the agricultural production and achieve food security. Since then much has changed at the global level and the world has progressed to trading in a tariff-free regime under the auspices of World Trade Organization. It has been agreed that resources are scarce and must be harnessed efficiently to enhance economic wealth of the nations within EU. The existing CAP within EU with direct payments on per hectare basis does not make any sense. The agricultural subsidies cost huge proportion of the EU budget. Providing export subsidies to produce surplus to dump it in the international market at the cost of developing countries, especially poor African countries, defy the basic probity and economic sense. Sweeping reforms are needed that can take care of environmental issues, climate mitigation, reduce water pollution, support efficient farming and rural development, provide fair international competition and encourage innovation in agriculture increasing productivity levels. Introduction This policy paper is for the attention of the Agricultural Commissioner, EU and is designed to explore whether the CAP should be reformed, and if so then in what way it should be modified to address the current issues. The paper is structured around understanding existing CAP and its relevance in reference to various economic theories that economists have proposed in last few decades to enhance the global wealth. It will look into various perspectives on proposed reforms and the available choices to address environmental issues. The paper finally provides concrete recommendations on the future CAP. Historical Account The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) had its modest beginning in 1962. Since

Action report 4 - Article Example The most affected are the young workers looking for the first opportunity to have a job as they have no experience. Also, the increase in the minimum wage reduces the freedom of the American citizens in spending. This is because there will be increase in the price of services and products in the economy (Schmitt, 18). Also according to the article, ââ¬Å"Why Does the Minimum Wage Have No Discernible Effect on Employment,â⬠research has evidently shown that minimum wage has no discernible effect on the employment practice of the low-wage earners. This is because the cost of the minimum wage in most firms is relatively small and that employers have many channels of adjustments. One channel of adjustment is that employers may reduce their expenditures on job training for low wage workers. Employers may also adjust by upgrading the skill level of their workforce and work against the employment of the less-experienced and less-educated workers. Employers in a highly competitive economy may also respond to a high minimum wage by passing the added cost to the consumers in form of high prices (Schmitt, 16). In conclusion, employers can cut pay to more highly paid workers, shift the composition towards higher skilled workers and accept a smaller profit margin as minimum wage has no discernible effect on employment. As for the workers, they may respond to the higher wage by working harder on the job and reducing labor turnover which enables the employers to save on

Bovine Spongiform Encephalophathy Essay -- BSE Prion Mad Cow Disease
Bovine Spongiform Encephalophathy Abstract: Bovine spongiform encephalopathy is caused by a prion, which is an infectious agent comprised solely of protein. The prion is a degenerate form of a normal cellular protein found in the brain and in nervous tissue. It targets the normal protein and causes the normal protein to change its shape. When enough of the prion is produced, the cell dies and symptoms of the disease are expressed. Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), more commonly known as mad cow disease, is an unusual disease in regards to the fact that it is not caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or any other organism. Instead the disease is caused by prions, infectious agents simply composed of protein. Prions lack nucleic acid and are composed of an abnormal isoform of a normal cellular protein. What this means is that the prions and the cellular proteins have the same arrangements of the amino acids; however, the prion is folded differently from the cellular protein. "They are much like the toy "Transformers" that intrigued little kids in the 1980s. A sphynx could become a robot; a bug could become a warrior. Nothing was added; nothing subtracted."(Ruth Levy Guyer, Ph.D., 1) The tightly wound alpha helixes (figure 2) of the normal cellular proteins are unfolded and turn into beta sheets (figure 1). (Ruth Levy Guyer, Ph.D., 1) Figure 1 Figure 2 Another feature of the prion is its ability to remain stable in extreme conditions. Because prions do not have any DNA or RNA like other infectious agents, they are very hard to deal with. Prions are extremely resistant to conventional procedures to inactivate them including irradiation, boiling, dry heat, and chemicals such asformalin, betapropiolactone, and alcohols. S... ...is a disease that runs in families and prevents people from sleeping, causes motor and emotional problems, and is eventually a killer. GSS was linked to two mutations in the prion gene in 1989. Prion fragments accumulate in the brain in structures called plaques. In Alzheimer's disease, similar plaques develop, but they are composed of fragments of a different protein. Works Cited ââ¬Å"Prionâ⬠Wikipedia. 28 July 2006 . Gender Role Effects in The Yellow Wallpaper - 1564 Words
Holly Fant Professor McClearen English 1102 24 April 2012 Gender Role Effects in ââ¬Å"The Yellow Wallpaperâ⬠Charlotte Perkins Gilman was a feminist writer who wrote ââ¬Å"The Yellow Wallpaperâ⬠in the 1890ââ¬â¢s. During this time period the woman were expected to keep the house clean, care for their children, and listen to their husbands. The men were expected to work a job and be the head of a household. The story narrates a womanââ¬â¢s severe depression which she thinks is linked to the yellow wallpaper. Charlotte Gilman experienced depression in her life and it inspired her to write ââ¬Å"The Yellow Wallpaper.â⬠The short story is based on a woman, not given a name in the text, who is very dependent on her husband. This is an example of how women feel their opinion or voice never mattered in the 1890ââ¬â¢s. The wife goes into great detail describing the wallpaper as if someone was really seeing it in their mind as they read the story. The paint and paper look as if a boyââ¬â¢s school had used it. It is stripped off- the paper- in great patches all around the head of my bed, about as far as I can reach, and in a great place on the other side of the room low down. I never saw a worse paper in my life. One of those sprawling, flamboyant patterns committing every artistic sin. It is dull enough to confuse the eye in following, pronounced enough to constantly irritate and provoke study, and when you follow the lame uncertain curves for a little distance they suddenly commit suicide- plunge off at outrageous angles, destroy themselves in unheard-of contradictions. The color is repellent, almost revolting: a smouldering unclean yellow, strangely faded by the slow-turning sunlight. It is a dull yet lurid orange in some places, a sickly sulphur tint in others (678). This description of the wallpaper obviously shows that there is something wrong with her mentally. It also shows the reader how she really feels about it and how it is affecting her, making her go insane. ââ¬Å"Alice Walkerââ¬â¢s depiction of female characters in ââ¬ËThe Color Purpleââ¬â¢ is intended to act as a stark contrast to how many female characters have been portrayed throughout literatureâ⬠Discuss this statement with reference to the critical anthology Throughout literature there has been an array of female portrayals, most prominently those in 19th century fiction, who didnââ¬â¢t work unless driven to it by necessity. Instead, the focus of interest was on the heroineââ¬â¢s choice of marriage partner, which would decide her ultimate social position and exclusively determine her happiness and fulfilment in life, or her lack thereof. However, when Walker published her novel The Color Purple, she rejected the traditional stance of the woman in literatureâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In one of her letters to Celie, Nettie says, ââ¬Å"The Olinka do not believe that girlââ¬â¢s should be educated. This shows just how big a role sexual politics plays throughout the narrative as these thoughts arenââ¬â¢t only expressed in America with Celie; she is expected to look after Mr.ââ¬â¢children; but also in the isola ted community of the Olinka tribe. Walker wants her reader to recognise that female subjugation is not restricted to the southern states of America, but is present across the world. Furthermore, the sexual politics within the novel are again highlighted through the way that Fonzo, Mr.ââ¬â¢ and then later Harpo treat their women. The women in the novel, in particular Celie, are seen by these men as being slaves or servants who are their to do the bidding of men whilst they enjoy life, as if the women have no rights or free will of their own. We are exposed to this harsh reality when Fonzo ââ¬Ëgives Celie awayââ¬â¢ to Mr.ââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËShe ainââ¬â¢t no stranger to hard work. And she cleanâ⬠¦she can work like a manââ¬â¢. The way that Fonzo describes Celie holds likeness to how slave auctioneers would sell off potential slaves to potential slave owners. However, in spite of this cruel treatment at the hands of men, Walker is keen to show her readership that regardless of the hardships that women face, they can find comfort in strength in one another. A clear example of where we see this female

Pastoral Care And Social Conflict - 1786 Words
Pastoral Care and Social Conflict By Keith L. Green Pamela D. Couture and Rodney J. Hunter did an outstanding job of reflecting on the way pastoral care was executed in the church in the past; they were especially effective with comparing and contrasting it the social, economic, and cultural issues people are faced with today. As a result of some of these issues people have suffered- Black people in particular. This suffering sparked a need for change. The authors observe several of these issues such as: race, single parenting, and post-modern family, among others. In doing so, they focus on the pastoral work of Charles V. Gerkin by reviewing numerous essays of people from different walks of life. They discuss some of the traditional patterns in contemporary pastoral care, which has become a challenge, and in some cases a hindrance for doing ministry work in society today. In the work of Charles ââ¬Å"Chuckâ⬠Gerkin, he draws upon the Gadamerian hermeneutical method, which is aimed toward a ââ¬Å"fusion of horizonsâ⬠of Christian story and human story. While he valued the individual conversations of chaplaincy and pastoral counseling, he also challenged pastoral care to consider the congregational, social institutional and cultural aspect of its work. Drawing upon the work of critical theory and of Erich Fromm in particular, Chuck was concerned with criticism of social institutions as they perpetuated injustice. Marketing Plan and Marketing Strategy Free Essays
Complete understanding of the marketplace and very careful planning are very important in developing a business strategy that will guarantee success. Successful businesses have certainly all stated with a very efficient and effective marketing plan. In running a business, marketing plays a very important role. We will write a custom essay sample on Marketing Plan and Marketing Strategy or any similar topic only for you Order Now The business owner must be knowledgeable with the businessââ¬â¢ customers, with their competitors, their strengths and weaknesses. These elements along with others should be well-defined in order to develop a well-written marketing plan and should be carried out though effective marketing strategies. Marketing Plan and its Overall Purpose An excellent marketing plan will draw how the business can catch the attention and retain their customers, how it will content with identified competitors and the needed fund to achieve desirable results. The marketing plan should incorporate a thorough market research, location of the business, the targeted group of customers, competition, product or service to put in the market for sale and effective strategies for promotions and advertisements. A marketing plan assists the business to incorporate its total marketing effort. It makes sure of a logical and organized approach to products and services development in order to meet and satisfy the needs of the customers. (Paul, 2007) Conducting a market research is needed to start an effective marketing plan. Through market research, relevant data will be gathered in order to help the business to solve possible problems in marketing. Frequently, the most common way of conducting market research is though survey via direct mail, telephone survey or facilitating a focus group session. Derivative or secondary data is also important to a successful market plan. Studies and reports done by different sectors of the society, like the government, associations and other businesses within the industry can provide very significant data and statistics on the research area. Consumer behavior research as the scientific study of the processes consumers use to select, secure, use, and dispose of products and services that satisfy their needs is very important in market research. Consumer behavior unswervingly affects marketing strategy. This is because of the concept of marketing, the idea that firms are present to satisfy customer needs (Winer, 2000). In writing the marketing plan the business needs to be clear on its objectives and how they will achieve them. A good marketing plan makes realistic, measurable and very clear objectives, which includes deadlines, provides a budget and designates responsibilities. A marketing plan is comprised of an analysis of the current market of the business, the businessââ¬â¢ objectives, the businessââ¬â¢ key strategies, the businessââ¬â¢ actions to attaining their objectives, their allocated budget and the effective timing of entering and positioning in the market Regardless of what type of market research a business will do, the focus should be on gathering sufficient information to find out who the potential customers are, if there is product or service demand for the business, if there are competitors in the scope of the business and how can the business be successful in the marketplace that they belong to. A comprehensive and a well-written marketing plan is very vital to all business undertakings because it illustrates how the business plan to attract and retain customers, how they will compete with their competitors, and what resources will they have available to attain the identified goals of the business. (Paul, 1997) Marketing Strategy and its Various Components In the present intense competition in the marketplace, a strategy that guarantees a coherent approach providing the businessââ¬â¢ product or service in a way that it will outperform its competitors is very crucial. On the other hand, by defining the marketing strategy of the business, it is a must to have a well-written methodology for the everyday process of implementing it. There is little value to strategy when the business lacks the resources or the know-how in its implementation. The process of developing a marketing strategy involves the consideration of many factors. Out of those factors some are more important compared with the others. For the reason that each strategy must prioritize some distinct considerations, it is not rational to determine each important factor at a generic level. (Porter, 1998) In developing a marketing strategy, there are two major components, which are: How will the business address the competition in the market How will the business carry out and support their daily operations After selecting the direction which is the most ideal for the overall objectives of the business, the next step is to consider the following factors in order to select a strategy for the offering that will outsell in the market: (Porter, 1998) Pricing After determining the overall objective of the offering and selecting a generic strategy, the business should then decide on the range of closely associated operational strategies. One of these is how will the business price the offering. The pricing strategy is mostly influenced by the businessââ¬â¢ necessity for net income and the objectives for stable market control. Promotion In order to sell an offering, the business should effectively promote and advertise it. Place of Distribution The business must choose the distribution channel and the method that will be utilized to get the offering into the close to the customer. Product/Service The business should be scrupulously familiar with the factors that launch products/services as strong contenders in the marketplace. Once the strategy is defined the must use the gathered information to determine whether this strategy will attain the objective of making the business competitive in the marketplace. Marketing Plan and a Marketing Strategy Fitting Together The marketing plan is how the business puts marketing strategy into practice. It is worth emphasizing the main points of the businessââ¬â¢ strategy in the plan. The marketing plan functions as a detailed road map for the planning and supervision of all marketing undertakings for a given period. An effective marketing plan must be customized and it may be essential to change a range of sections to meet the changing needs of the business to which it applies. Effective marketing plans start by studying what is presently happening and what has happened in the past. It is unworkable to build up solid plans for the future if the present situation is misunderstood. The marketing plan can then be considered as the practical application of their marketing strategy. In effect, the business will not have a marketing plan without a marketing strategy. Then marketing strategies sets in by being delivered by the businessââ¬â¢ detailed marketing plan. Conclusion Operating successful business is not an easy task; it involves a great deal of business knowledge. Marketing is simply all about letting people know about the product or service that a certain business offers, and influencing potential customers to buy or use it. And for effective marketing the business have to let people know about their product or service constantly and to do this, the business will to have to come up with both an appropriate and effective marketing strategy and a marketing plan. Uniform accounting standards free essay sample
In order to answer this question one must first identify what the phrases ââ¬Å"accounting standardsâ⬠and ââ¬Å"financial reportingâ⬠refer to. Accounting standards refer to the accounting methods used in an accounting system like the IFRS. Financial reporting refers to the representation of financial information, in order to be uniform the financial reporting must be based on a fixed set of rules, invole complete objectivity and no bias. The IFRS (International financial reporting standards) has indeed helped the uniformity of financial reporting. However, in some cases due to subjectivity involved, created by human judgment, the financial information reported may not be uniform. Furthermore the various methods permitted by the IFRS for the valuation of assets, inventory, and other components, create non-uniform financial reports. Uniform accounting standards are vital for uniform financial reporting as they specify the accounting methods used to interpret business transactions, this in turn creates an agreement on how commercial transactions are to be accounted for thereby creating uniform financial reporting. For example, the IFRS states that assets are to be recorded at the lower of their historical cost or net realizable value on the statement of financial position as a result all assets are reported in a uniform way. There are many other cases that lead to uniform financial reporting, but the main point is the standard rules implemented by the IFRS lead to a uniform way of reporting certain financial information. However there are some aspects of uniform accounting standards that can lead to non-uniform financial reporting. In the case of the IFRS there are some aspects involved that rely heavily on human judgment. This subjective element can lead to varying financial reporting. For example the calculation of fair value is a highly subjective process. Especially for intangible assets like pension costs and share based payments, in both cases their respective fair values will be determined by hypothesizing what a market price would be if there were a market. Though these judgments are based on a large amount of quantitative data there is a large degree of human judgment involved. Similarly when it comes to depreciating an asset a firm has many options, which as will be discussed later pose other problem, under the IFRS an entity can be depreciated by several methods examples being the straight line and the reducing balance methods. The method chosen depends on the personââ¬â¢s perception of how the value of an asset depreciates over time thus creating a subjective aspect. It is worth mentioning however that this subjective component is crucial in capturing the realistic changes in value of an asset. If there were a rule stating that the only method allowed was the straight line though uniformity would be created across financial reporting a degree of realism would be removed for example a piece of agricultural land could degrade exponentially each year suggesting that an alternative method would be more accurate in capturing the value over time. Another problem associated with the IFRS, in relation to uniform financial reporting, is that there are many methods one can use to present financial information. For example under the IFRS companies can employ one of three cost formulas when reporting inventory expenses, specific identification, first in first out, or weighed average cost. Depending on what cost method is used inventory will be reported differently. Firms in many cases take advantage of this flexibility by employing the cost method that reports the cost of inventory at its lowest value thereby increasing profit. This flexibility hampers uniform financial reporting . However the IFRS has enforced other rules that counter the flexibility of others. In the case of costing inventory though the firm has three options to choose from under the IFRS (IAS 2. 26)â⬠an entity must use the same cost formula for all inventories having a similar nature and use to the entity. That is, a multinational company must use a consistent inventory policy election for each class of inventory in all of its worldwide subsidiariesâ⬠. Furthermore other accounting systems like the US GAAP allow an additional method of costing inventory (last in last out), which creates even more flexibility and also do not provide any rules like IAS 2. 26 to counter such flexibility. Another important point is that certain firms may employ creative accounting to take advantage of the subjective component as well as the flexibility provided by the IFRS to manipulate certain financial information. This produces non uniform financial reporting, however the use of auditors can be used to hinder this aspect as auditors will present a non bias report of the financial data. In conclusion uniform accounting standards in the context of the IFRS do, to a certain extent, produce uniform financial reporting as they specify the accounting methods used to interpret business transactions, which lead to agreement on how commercial transactions are to be accounted. However in some cases these rules involve a subjective component, which can lead to non-uniformity because different people may have different perceptions of a certain accounting aspect like the fair value of an asset. In my opinion however in the context of the IFRS this subjective element does not lead to a great amount of non-uniformity due to the constant revaluations of components such as the fair value of assets. Furthermore the subjective decisions are based on large amounts of relevant data, which lead to fairly uniform reporting. In the case of the IFRS firms, which use creative accounting to manipulate their accounting information thereby creating non uniform reporting can be hindered by the use of auditors. Finally the various accounting methods permitted by the IFRS though lead to non-uniform financial reporting are opposed by other rules such as the IAS 2. 26. Once again firms that employ creative accounting to take advantage of the flexibility created by the IFRS are hindered through auditors. Therefore I believe that the IFRS does indeed produce uniform financial reporting.

Freedom of Speech Expression Should Be Curtailed free essay sample
This reveals the unfortunate fact that even though almost everyone claims to support freedom of speech, their definition of freedom of speech is quite restricted. This is of course something that not only Muslims do, but almost everyone. In this text I will define the framework to achieve what I like to call absolute freedom of speech. Even it will have a limited restriction, but only because of the current technological level of our society. I believe with sufficient technology absolute freedom of speech will be possible indeed. As far as I concern, there is not a single nation that does not guarantee ââ¬Å"freedom of speechâ⬠in their constitution. It is included in pretty much any EU country, in the US, Malaysia, in China and even in North Korea. This shows that the word itself is pretty meaningless, since the custom is to claim to have freedom of speech and still have a widespread censorship system in place. We will write a custom essay sample on Freedom of Speech Expression Should Be Curtailed or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This applies to Western nations too, not only to countries like North Korea where the situation is abhorrent. By freedom of speech in this context I do not only mean speech, but information in any media, be it a sound recording, a picture or a video and also press. The whole point of freedom of speech is to allow even the crazy, disgusting information to be made available. Some people have the skewed view that freedom of speech should only allow the mutually agreed, fun beliefs, and not the disgusting and offending stuff. But such a view is against the whole idea of freedom. This doesnt mean that a support of freedom of speech should agree with beliefs like racism or Neo-Nazism. One has the whole right to fight against an idea or ideology, but the point is to not fight them by making thoughts illegal. The proper way to fight them is with the freedom of expression, rational discussion and debating. German has ironically banned Neo-Nazism, using the same tactics that Nazis used themselves. The restrictions in Western nations are widespread. However, as I said earlier, the information that is banned is often disgusting, but even such information should be allowed. For example, there is a community in the internet who like to collect and share pictures and videos of violent nature, often showing dead people and gory accidents. Even if this is indignant to some, it should be allowed. Some countries have naturally tried to ban it, like German. According to the prime minister of Finland, Matti Vanhanen, such information is illegal in Finland too. Violent materials, like violent video games or movies have often attracted supporters of censorship. Some games in German and Australia are banned when they were deemed too violent. Modifications like green blood are often applied in such countries to get past the censorship board. The reason for this censorship is usually that playing these games makes children violent. Although some studies seem to indicate a small correlation, this is a not proper argument for censorship. The human right for freedom of expression overrides this claim, as freedom as a concept often has a price. If a civilization starts to censorship all material that has a correlation with immoral behaviour, they would have to censor a large chunk of information available, everything from critically acclaimed books to heavy metal songs. Racism is something that also attracts hordes of politically correct censorship supporters. Although such speech is mostly secured in the U. S, if it does not directly call for violence against people, the situation is worse in the EU. An EU directive was recently passed that makes it illegal to incite hatred against a particular race among other things. This law can then be applied to sweep away racist websites and organisations, which already happens in a number of EU countries. Belgium banned a Flemish nationalist party, even when it had a popularity of 24%. The same EU directive also banned ââ¬Å"grossly trivializing genocideâ⬠, effectively banning any historical research which might conclude something other than the official truth defined the by the state. Holocaust denial was already banned in many European countries before this law, and now will be illegal in all EU states. An acclaimed historian David Irving was prisoned in Austria for his thought crime of identifying with the Germany Nazi Party, although the real reason was writing a book with wrong conclusions regarding the Holocaust. Ive showed that censorship is widespread in Western nations, but I would like to show one more example of a disturbing information which should be allowed just like any other information you disagree with. For example, take the reasoning behind the banning of violent crimes: ââ¬Å"Violent games should be banned because they create violenceâ⬠. Now, letââ¬â¢s switch the words for the argument against another type of information: ââ¬Å"Child pornography should be banned because they create child abuse. â⬠Although child pornography is extremely disgusting, it is not to be excluded like a dogma from the freedom of expression. First of all, child rapists should be hunted like any other criminal for their crime of child abuse. This does not mean that the actual video tape of such act should be illegal. It is like saying that a video tape of a terrorist attack should be illegal. Even though it does not matter whether or not these films create child abuse, there is scientific study done that shows the link between pornography and rapes. It turns out that the more pornography is made available, the less rape is committed. Having widespread censorship system to fight child porn also makes it easier to ban other information. First it is child porn, then it is violent material, then it is racism and so forth, the list continues. Finally just offending or criticising someone is made illegal. This is of course called libel, where you cannot make so called wrong facts, and leaving it to the justice system to define the official truth. This is of course used to silence critics of movies, restaurants, religions or large corporations. It is more widespread in the EU than the US, since the constitution of US is based on the idea of freedom of speech. I define absolute freedom of speech to create any information available. A practical example of this would be an internet server, which would serve information to anyone who requests it. To define it this way, things like spamming and shouting in public are not covered by freedom of speech, since it forces people to receive information. The current technological level however creates one restriction. The only restriction that I believe can be accepted is information which ricks the destruction of the whole human civilization. There is no philosophical justification for this, only practical ones. If we want to survive the next 100 years, some information ought to be banned. These might include instructions to create extremely powerful weapons. However, it must be pointed out that this restriction only applies for now. When we will have advanced enough technology, this restriction can be removed, since anyone trying to create those weapons can be prevented using high technology. There are several practical objections made by people against absolute freedom of speech. One is that if freedom is absolute, people could just print fake money. However, I defined freedom of speech only to make information available, so it would be legal to post pictures of money on a website, not to print them and break a contract between the state and a person. Another concern is privacy. I support privacy, and agree that breaking into somebodys house should be illegal. If that does happen and the information leaks out, people should be able to share that information freely though. The breaking into the house is the real crime committed. In a similar objection, a bank worker breaks the law if he uploads private information to his web server, since he had signed a contract with the bank not do that. However, once the information is downloaded it can be freely shared. In practice, it is also impossible to destroy information once it has been leaked out. What then prevents somebody from creating a robot that reads an internet site and acts according to commands posted there? Well, the person controlling the robot through the website is not breaking any law, but whoever created the dangerous robot in the first place is. Some people also say that rich people can just post death threats with a price to his web server. If anyone follows such threats the killer is obviously responsible for the death. To prevent this kind of practice the proper solution is to have better technology to prevent and catch crime, not to restrict freedom of speech. Would it then legal to post a computer virus to a web server? Yes, it would. Whoever downloads the computer virus and activates it is responsible for any damage created by that computer. The real solution is again proper computer security, not restricting freedom of speech. Computer viruses and the source code to them are even now freely available in the net. Freedom of speech is something that most people claim to support, but they are actually supporters of censorship and thought crime. The first kinds of information to be censored are naturally the nasty and disgusting things, not things that the majority of people agree with. A small censorship law unfortunately creates a slippery slope leading to larger censorship, and the progress in the last few decades in Western nations is not something to be proud about. If censorship is not fought against it tends to always increase. Other than that, the right to freedom of expression is recognized as a human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law n the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Article 19 of the ICCPR states that ââ¬Å"everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interferenceâ⬠and ââ¬Å"everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choiceâ⬠. Article 19 goes on to say that the exercise of these rights carries ââ¬Å"special duties and responsibilitiesâ⬠and may ââ¬Å"therefore be subject to certain restrictionsâ⬠when necessary ââ¬Å"for respect of the rights or reputation of othersâ⬠or ââ¬Å"for the protection of national security or of public order, or of public health or moralsââ¬Å". So what do we have in Malaysia? Article 10(1) of the Federal Constitution grants freedom of speech, the right to assemble peaceably and the right to form associations to every Malaysian citizen but such freedom and rights are not absolute: the Constitution itself, by Article 10 (2), (3) and (4), expressly permits Parliament by law to impose restrictions in the interest of the security of the Federation, friendly relations with other countries, public order, morality, to protect the privileges of Parliament, to provide against contempt of court, defamation, or incitement to any offence. I agree that Freedom of Speech is an unalienable right. I myself have been chastised for my outspoken views on certain injustices. But that is the point, isnââ¬â¢t it. That my speech, while it is my right, should also come with my personal responsibility. In conclusion, I would suggest that we craft a form of Freedom of Expression that takes into account our complex society that is unlike any other. We cannot copy wholesale the models of other parts of the World, as they are not perfect either, especially as there are elements of double standards in other nations as well. There is no such thing as absolute freedom. What we have is relative freedom i. e. freedom governed by law or defined in the context in which the society exists. Freedom of expression and information is very much dictated by the internal or national and to a certain extent the external dynamics of the nations. And it differs from nation to nation, depending whether the nation is homogenous or multiracial.
